LINK Description
My LINK Internship was a Marketing, Digital Design and Social Media position at the RSpace Coworking facility in downtown Durango, Colorado. This space is used for coworking which means anyone can come in at anytime and get work done in an environment that is flowing with positive and productive energy. So if you're feeling lazy or just procrastinating too much stop by the RSpace for a fun, creative environment that will help you work better! With free coffee, snacks, and flex desks, this awesome facility is available for many different membership options ranging on your flexibility and budget!
What I did for this internship was overall help around the space and get to know what coworking was at first. Being new to the concept, there was lots to learn so gaining the basic knowledge was key in starting off my internship right. I spent the first couple days working on a spreadsheet around what makes the most efficient coworking space, compiling information about the the top coworking spaces across the world and how we can use those in our own business. The rest of my time was spent on my 3D modeling project of the actual facility with dimensions and exact furniture replicas. Little side projects were done here and there like help move stuff or make ads for other businesses. The over of my link was to learn new knowledge about running a coworking business and using my old knowledge to make it better.

At first, finding an internship was difficult for me and especially one in my interests. I emailed about 5 different companies ranging from a lot of my interests to see if I could at least land one. I only got a reply from one of them and shortly after he stopped all communication with me. A month went by and I was still on the search for an internship, until one day while I was working at my job at the Rochester hotel, a nearby manager heard me over talking about an internship at my school. She came up to me and offered me one at their new coworking facility the RSpace. She asked me what I could do for them, and I returned the same question. Later that day we settled on a Marketing, Digital Design, and Social Media internship at the new facility.
I chose this particular internship because, well I pretty much had no other option but it did hit a lot of my potential career interests and I thought I could learn a new thing or two while at it. I am also very familiar with the Rochester family so being able to work with them even more was a no doubter.
Working at this internship I was hoping to gain a little more experience in the real life work place with Digital Design and Social Media and how we can use those in a business but also about Marketing and running a successful business because I have no experience in that field at all. And what I was hoping to bring to this internship was my knowledge about Social Media and how to reach out to more audiences and my Digital Design skills in Photoshop. These skills were useful in helping improve the businesses social media platforms and making ads and fliers for events at the facility. All resulting in more customers and moolah.
A mark I left on my internship was definitely the work I put into building the website and the 3D model being used to help customers get to know the space without actually building it. These things made a huge impact on the business because they didn't have a website as a company, which is key in building popularity and reputation, and wanted a way for people to see the facility without having to get in their cars and come tour it. Both of things will help the business grow and will always be there for me to look back on.

LINK Project
LINK Reflection |
For my link project, I not only did something that is super cool but made something that would benefit the company and customers. I made a 3D SketchUp model of the RSpace facility so company member can rearrange furniture in the program instead of doing it in real life, just in case they mess up or don't wanna do the work. It will also be used as a virtual tour on their website so new customers and member can view flex desks and conference rooms without having to go in and take a tour. This project was my main project but I also had other small ones on the side. Ari and I helped build their new website and put fundamental pages onto the site. We also managed their Instagram and Twitter accounts and made various ads for their events.

My specific skills coming into LINK that were most useful were my people skills and Digital Design skills because when running a business like this a lot of new customers are coming in on the daily. And since I sat right next to the front door, I was the first person to greet them. Having good people skills is great because I can talk to them comfortably, make conversation easily, and help them with whatever they need help with. Having my Digital Design skills were helpful as well, there were many instances where we needed to make a flier or poster for a specific event that was happening that day or in the future. Knowing how to build a great poster, I brought my skills to the table and made a variety of posters from the Wine Fest to a Herald ad.
The most important skill developed in my internship was my Digital Designing skill. Over the course of the three weeks I had many different projects that helped with this. From improving my 3D design skills in the program SketchUp to making simple ads for the company brochure, my Digital Design skills were no far from lacking. The 3D model developed my design skill the most because I hadn't used a program or platform like that in years so being able to learn the process from the ground up and building a complete model of the space improved my skills furthermore and helped me find a new career interest.
The only really big challenge I grew from was not knowing how to use the program SketchUp and having to learn the basics from the ground up. After watching countless videos and doing a small model, I overcame this challenge and built a 3D model from scratch. Improving and learning as I went. I didn't face any other challenges besides maybe the time we had to care a huge couch down a flight of stairs and back up again.
The importance of a high school intern in this company is to help around the facility and bring the knowledge that others may not have to the table. They may have skills that can be helpful to the business or even lend that extra hand when lifting a table. Our generation is on the come up by a mentor teaching us these skills we cannot only be helpful to them now, but in the future as well. Plus you don't even have to pay us, just put us to work!
This internship had broaden my arisen in the career field and has created a possible career interest for the future. Learning 3D design and how it's used in architecture really snagged my interest and made me want to learn more. I am considering doing a senior project around this by making a small house and then actually building it off the program. And after that, I am planning on looking for a school that have majors in Architecture and graduating into a new architectural career!
